Yeah, you read that right. This place has been standing on King Street West since before Toronto really knew what it was gonna become. Originally built as a private mansion for the Vorn family - old money textile folks who made their fortune when Canada was still figuring itself out.
The architecture? Pure Victorian grandeur mixed with what we'd now call Romanesque Revival. Back then, they just called it showing off - and honestly, we're here for it.
By the 1920s, the family converted their mansion into what they called a "hospitality house" - basically an early boutique hotel before that was even a thing. Jazz musicians, visiting dignitaries, and the occasional literary type all passed through these doors.
The property changed hands a few times through the decades. Had some rough patches during the '70s - let's not talk about the carpeting choices made during that era. But in 2015, a heritage restoration team took over and spent three years bringing her back to life.
They kept the bones - the crown moldings, the grand staircase, those impossibly high ceilings - but gave everything else a proper update. Now you've got heated bathroom floors and original 1880s wood paneling living together in perfect harmony.
Our concierge team actually remembers your name and your coffee order. That kind of attention used to be standard - we're bringing it back.
Every restoration decision was made with historians and preservation experts. We didn't just slap some Victorian wallpaper up and call it heritage.
History's great, but so is fast WiFi and rainfall showers. We've got both. You can Instagram your stay from a room that's older than Instagram by about 130 years.
Our restaurant operates in what was the original family dining hall. The chandelier hanging there? That's the same one that's been there since 1887. We had it restored, rewired, and now it's got LED bulbs that look like candlelight.
The head chef found some of the Vorn family's original recipe books in the building's archives and adapted a few dishes for our current menu. It's a trip eating food inspired by recipes from over a century ago.
